Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile recently invited the Project Production Institute (PPI) to jointly deliver a workshop on the principles of Project Production Management (PPM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). Dr. Mike Williams, the Institute’s Director of Academic Relations, facilitated the workshop which included 15 students and faculty members from the Construction Engineering and Management Program. Topics included: PPI / VDC overview, using PPM in construction, key elements of variability, resources, buffers and work in process (WIP) along with the concept of “project as production system”.
Dr. Williams also delivered the inaugural lecture for the incoming class of Masters students. Attended by over 50 students, faculty and alumni, the lecture compared current challenges in project delivery with industrialized construction activity, future trends in technologies, projected growth in global construction, demand for civil engineers, and emerging challenges they may face during their careers.
PPI researches and disseminates knowledge related to the application of operations science for the optimization of complex and critical energy, industrial and civil infrastructure projects.
