Dr. Paul Teicholz is professor emeritus of civil engineering at Stanford University and a noted consultant on business and technology issues to the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. He has more than 40 years of experience applying information technology to the AEC industry.
He began his career developing computer applications for the construction industry at Jacobs Associates. He then worked at Guy F. Atkinson Co. from 1968-1988 as the information technology manager, overseeing the development and implementation of integrated accounting, manufacturing, cost and engineering systems.
In 1998 he founded the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE) at Stanford University, the premier research center for architecture and AEC computer applications. Dr. Teicholz’s research and consulting interests include: business and technology issues involved in the integration of the design, construction, and facility management processes; modeling of design and construction process to help predict project outcomes (cost, schedule, and quality); internet applications for electronic commerce and engineering-construction team support; visualization tools that improve the design and construction process; and quality improvement methods for design and construction and their impact on value.
Teicholz was named the Construction Management “Man of the Year” by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1985 and was tapped as an “Innovator for Technology and Materials in the Construction Industry” by Engineering News-Record magazine in 1999. He was also awarded the Peurifoy Construction Research Award by the Construction Research Council of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1999 and elected to the Chi Upsilon engineering honor society at Cornell University. Dr. Teicholz earned a Master of Science degree and PhD in civil engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. in civil engineering from Cornell University.
